Dance School History

The original Dance Crazy studios were based in Kemp Road, Winton which had previously been owned by professional dancers Bill and Anne Legg. Together they had successfully run their own dance school from this site for over 20 years. During this time Simon and Heidi’s father, John Cruwys, have got to know the couple through his involvement as chairman for the Channel Counties Amateur Dancers Association. He had delivered leaflets to the Kemp road school for years and during this time Bill and Anne had taken a keen interest in Simon and Heidi’s careers, following their successes in both regional and national events.

It was this interest that led Bill and Anne to offer John first refusal on the lease of the studio on their retirement in 1998. Heidi and Simon who by now had retired from competition dancing took up the challenge of developing their own school at Kemp Road. Fuelled with huge amounts of enthusiasm and a lot of help from their family Dance Crazy was born.

Each year their membership swelled, a team of highly qualified teachers were now offering classes in many dance styles from traditional disciplines such as Ballroom and Latin, Ballet, Tap and Disco to the diverse aspects of Street, Modern and Pole. The Kemp Road site wasn’t able to accommodate this ever growing curriculum and with an impressive membership and world class dancers regularly working with them ... it was decided that Dance Crazy was going to have to move to new premises.

New Dance Studio Premises

We are proud to say that our new Dance Crazy Studios are situated in the heart of Bournemouth town offering Dorset’s first ‘One Stop Venue for Dance’. Our professional dance floor, perhaps the largest dance school floor in the area, along with our state of the art sound system offers the very best facilities for teaching, rehearsing and performing.

We have for the first time a fabulous reception area where all new dancers can get ‘up to date’ information on class times and charges and learn about special events and offers we will be running throughout the year. Our corporate and private functions are offered the use of our fully licensed bar which guarantees our evening events are always lots of fun!

Our focus has been to offer the very best environment for learning dance, complimented with a unique opportunity also for dancers to socialise and meet other dancers. We feel we have a achieved this and invite you to come along and take a look. Don’t forget your dance shoes!!
