ISTD Medal Exam ClassesDance Crazy is committed to providing the very best dance instruction to our pupils offering them the opportunity to take dance exams. Our medal work dance classes are taught by qualified teachers who follow the ISTD syllabus for all the dance styles. These dance classes take students through routines that are then performed in front of an ISTD examiner. We are grateful to the society, who visit Dance Crazy as external adjudicators, to judge and award our dance students with medals.
ISTD stands for ‘The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing’. Formed in 1904, it was called ‘The Imperial Society of Dance Teachers’. Over 200 dance teachers gathered at the Hotel Cecil in Covent Garden, forming what was the start of one of the most influential dance societies of our day. In 1906 the first Congress took place and in September 1907 the very first issue of "Dance Journal" was published. The present day structure of the ISTD was established by the formation of separate branches (now Faculties) including Ballroom and Latin, Ballet, Modern and many more. Examination Structure - As the ISTD expanded it became apparent that teachers needed a set syllabus in each genre that could be taught; this method is used to teach today. Examinations can be taken in a graded format starting from pre-primary up to vocational exams such as Pre- Intermediate to Advanced 2, or as Medal Tests starting from Pre bronze up to Gold Star and beyond. The examination structure of the ISTD is designed to cater for those pursuing dance as a leisure activity or those wishing to progress professionally, either as a performer or dance teacher.
